As for Veo - are you sure you've used the Veo 3 one? Are you paying the crazy fee for it? Because Veo 2 is free in Google AI Studio and is the perfect alternative if you're not going for realism and native sound effects.
I originally found Meta’s Animated Drawings from that article Daniel! I must have been using Veo 2 (I actually created multiple accounts because you can only do a couple of renders a day). I tried a couple other video gen platforms from your more recent article (Pika maybe on Discord?) that did sound but the video melted Joe’s face.

Yeah, then you're definitely using Veo 2, which is silent but otherwise best-in-class after Veo 3. It's funny, but Pika is a fail for me almost every time I run my text-to-video tests.
