Having a rival can be really helpful if you're trying to unite a team. The businesses I've started all began as underdogs, but some rose to something more like leaders in their fields. It's been interesting to be a part of this movement from the inside, but also: I guess we didn't really need to have ONE rival since we were kinda fighting for existence/survival.
Vanquishing enemies is a great rally cry but I think this is an area where small business and big business differ. You know better than I, but in my couple years building websites for small biz / non-profit, there is more partnering then vanquishing
There certainly is for us! I strongly prefer this approach, and it's actually feasible most of the time in our industry. Finding little win/win scenarios can really help a ton.
