Krispy Kreme in the south was everything. We'd get donuts fresh from the line, right as they came out of the fryer, still dripping as they put them in the to-go bag. You had to wait a few minutes to take a bite. People don't really have any idea what this was like for me.
KingPin at 1am was pretty dang good but sounds like you were on another level. Like all this stuff I think age has a lot to do with impact. My early sweet memories were forged out of the goods my dad brought home
100%. Donuts seem like a good idea nowadays, but I've gotten away from binging sweets quite so much (though I certainly have my moments). My body doesn't appreciate thousand-calorie bites the way it used to!
The Northeast is overpopulated with Dunkin franchises. I call their offerings "corporate doughnuts." The best, most memorable doughnuts come from Mom and Pop shops, local bakeries and from small local or regional grocery stores! I still have fond memories of headlights from the Super Duper Market in Oswego, NY (closed down at least 30 years)!
so true! Corporate donuts can't hold a candle to the local stores. The most popular donut store in my town is run by a Cambodian family called Tans Donuts so you can munch on some spicy noodles with your donut. Might have to do some more field research :)

Yah that Fritter, dam. I only had a couple bites and I won't be having another one of those until I'm 70, err 30

Computing history can wait. Dad and donuts stories are awesome. Dad's sick kicks clearly the most awesome
I might have written this whole thing so I could share that picture of my dad.
And that's a hell of a fine reason to write it
