Most scams don’t need you to be stupid. They need you to be rushed, annoyed, scared, late for a flight, or doing something else. Most days I am all of that. That is a much larger target market.
Man, I’ve got layers on top of layers of skeptical, but I still think I could be fooled by the right scam at the right time. You literally can’t be too paranoid (well, okay, you can be but you get the point).
My great aunt was scammed when she was living by herself after my great uncle died, and she ultimately developed dementia. It was easy pickings for 90s phone scammers.
Today, it's so much easier. We are going to be in a serious arms race for our own security here very soon, or maybe we are already in one.
I'm also not especially looking forward to the days when everyone needs a personal protection drone swarm with them at all times.

Smol example. Wordpress - the open source platform where i build most of my websites (and runs most of the internet’s websites) - has had 5 updates since they shipped 7.0 in May. Crazy cadence. WP core security team is responding fast to increasing vulnerabilities they are finding, tx AI.

An authenticated Author+ remote code execution issue via malicious file upload on sites that use Imagick and Ghostscript reported by the team at pwn.ai

According to these guys they get over 1million calls a year and Americans lost $21billion last yr (including crypto), so yeah big big TAM!

100%. Codex updates more than once a day sometimes. It's wild.
Being scammed taught me to slow down and triple check the moment sensitive info gets into the question. Fool me twice, shame on me
