What jogged my memory in the HS were the fat yellow lines around each machine indicating if you’re not the operator you need to be outside them. That saying was my shop teachers’s favorite. I still remember his lathe story. It was about this girl with beautiful long hair and … well I’ll let you use your imagination. Any ‘hair+lathe’ hits?
Yes i have an extremely overeducated engineer friend that teaches at a girls catholic school in central LA and that is the thing he loves the best. But, that’s not really my lane. So I’m going to try teaching them CS first and robots 2nd.
Yesterday I got a chrome book to try because that’s all they’ve got. I’m scared …
I never had a TRS80 but a Z80 version done by Dick Smith stores - our version of Radio Shack here in Australia. I still have it downstairs in its wooden box with tape player and monochrome TV. Have not tried to make it work for many years. It was assembled from parts - a lot of parts.
I have thought to offer my services to a school but may be past it.
I have put up a few stories which may be of interest.
Next week - pitch the kids on Tuesday and then Thursday will be my first session. Once a week, should be a lot less stressful than last year! Did you ever watch Mythbusters? I think I’m going to call my first block AIBusters
Rocketman! Love the class pic and the whole story. OMG, you're taking on high school again... my poor website. Just kidding, plus we're almost finished. This sounds like you're going to have a ball. Where is this school?
You were president of the rocketry club AND hanging around Radio Shack staring at electronic components.
So basically there was never any chance you were going to become normal. 😂
I really hope the teaching gig works out. This place sounds like it found exactly the right person.
Happy Friday Andrew.
Not a chance.
maybe this is why we are friends :)
I feel like normal was never a goal for you either :)
What's the fun in being normal 🤣
Have a good weekend Andrew.
"It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye."
I actually quoted that in my article about accidents. You can search my app for "eye" and see if it happened in 2025: https://tinyurl.com/5fehfffx
Workshop tools are indeed a huge source of ER visits.

the Search facility is pretty lame, but the whole database is on HuggingFace, so you can do SQL on that.
A bunch of my friends have been or are advisors to teenage robotics teams. A lot of HS’s have them, as I’m sure you know.

I had two Chrome Books. They were OK, but now I have a Macbook. Apple’s ecosystem is better, sorry to say.
We must have had just about parallel lives.

I had thought that this robotic thing would be great for educational project

Cheers and carry on!
I didn't ever use a TRS-80 but I did have a CoCo (Color Computer).
I also had one of those electronic kits. I used in my speech class as a demo.
I loved going into Radio Shack, and Lafayette Radio Electronics stores when young. It was a fun hobby. Once a tinkerer...
My sponsor at this new school had one of these lying around so good times ahead https://www.makershed.com/products/make-esp32-starter-pack
nice! When do you start up at school again?

love mythbusters. Glad you are looking forward to this year!

Forestville. Remember the HS that used to be there?
I don't, but I was only in Sebtown for 5 years... is it a private school now, or charter?
Top drama when they shut it down. I think it's a legit pub school

Also! This time it's on my terms - 1 day/week and zero tests. So I have time to do all the things :)
What a coveted school this must be. Wowzer on your terms. Happy for you (and me, haha), it sounds like the perfect gig!!
I worked here for 7 years (2011-2018):
