"Plagiarism is built in" is a provocative way to put it. 😂

Although I suspect many developers would say.... "Exactly. That’s the point."

Software has spent decades figuring out how to build on what came before.

Creative fields are now being forced into a conversation that engineering has been having for years.

I love the lens you used for AI - The Cathedral & the Bazaar

Interestingly, the current Anthropic lawsuit isn't copyright related, but piracy.

The use of the content of the books was found to be fine, but the acquisition via torrent downloads very problematic. And the payouts are very specific on this (one of my books was included, so I do tell people I helped train the AI 🤣)

There's also been another case where real books were purchased and scanned in, then physically destroyed, and whilst people are up in arms both for the destruction and the training uses, by taking this approach it's completely legal (apparently) under some 'first/only use' scenarios.

So many loopholes out there......
