August 1st was a glorious day for the first annual Wirepine triathlon Try for Tech. The course this year was a standard Tri2 or 2-20/20. The team has been training hard to make this a great event. The day started early with a vigorous stroll and a bit of a grind for the 2nd mile through the hilly trails of the Santa Rosa rural cemetery. Lola set the pace for the athletes and got everyone charged up in the brisk morning air. Lady Luck smiled on us and only 1 poo bag was needed in the first leg of the race.
Quick transition to the bike and the miles continued to roll by after a nice warm up with views of the Russian River crossing in Healdsburg and heading down old Redwood highway. The team picked up East Road just north of Windsor where the climbs got a little more intense after we crossed Wohler Bridge over to West Dry Creek Road. We completed the loop through the Russian River valley vineyards stopping for some energy at mile 19 at Toad Hollow and broke out the PB&J’s. Maximum performance takes maximum fuel. Regardless of how hard you train, your body needs the best fuel to do its best work. Thanks to Bonne Maman for the tri-berry jam blend to keep the cramps at bay and find the car after this 20+ mile middle leg.
The final swim event was the hardest - not much left in the tank - but the water was refreshing and athletes kept up the pace, alternating between breast and crawl. Fortune broke our way again, getting separate lanes so Jfran didn’t slow down my blistering pace to the finish. Finished strong 💪
All in all a great day and a magical inaugural event for Wirepine Try for Tech benefiting small business across Sonoma county. The event is open to all ages and skill levels and we'll do it again next year where we'll add in a Tri3 option or 3-30/30 - hope to see you there!
While I re-hydrated after the ride and before my pre-swim nap I cranked out the instagram post - seriously took me like 10 mins. Tools like Canva and Microsoft Designer make it easy to turn up your social posts no matter what your day looks like - give it a Tri!
