Even with as many smart devices as I have around the house, I have not added any that shut off the water. I undersatnd an insurance company requiring them in a vacation home, but - outside the requirement - I don't trust them enough to bother.
Trust the insurance companies or the device :) A friend of mine up the street (no mountain!) had her whole first floor flood because of a leaky dishwasher and 6mos later she's still dealing with repairs. The insurance company paid for everything but still what a PITA
