My parents spent their golden years in an RV and my mom kept a great blog. Viewsfromthemovingroadblock. They always said it would be useful when their memories fade.

Your eleven year old road trip doesn't exactly mirror my own version (NYC, the one I wrote about today), but there are some rhymes. This is an important moment in your life too, I think.

Also: I am gonna see my Van Halen friends pretty soon, I think! They're gonna be in town for a brief period to visit. I don't know if they'll have their van, though: they moved to Vietnam last year!

Reading that next but yeah I can sure connect the dots back from ASV to that first RV trip when I was 11; I just thought it was the best thing ever. April we're going to New Mexico with Chaos Monkey and his best friend. Closer than Vietnam but it will be for real road trip.

Feels like traveling with a small group makes that stuff more survivable, although you certainly have to pick the right crew.

My 12 years of piano lessons ended when Janet and her husband sold their house, bought an RV, and spent 5 years driving around North America. I'm still waiting for their book to come out.

Well, not everyone can be Steinbeck - did Janet name her RV? That seems to be the first step.

don’t know.

By the way, her husband is David C. Smith, the inventor of icons. That’s his son on the cover of my book, “Inventing the Future” playing MazeWar on a real, working Alto.

Wonderful. If you ever decide to point the Spider-Van towards the upper chunk of middle America, I'll buy you coffee.

Steinbeck went cross country at 58, so I better get going!

My mom and I also hit those RV shows. It was so exciting to see the new gadgets, layouts, and storage spaces.

I can see your mom lovin that. Me and JFran hit the Alameda County RV show just before I retired. So fun, you just gotta avoid the sales guys. BIG RED update - If you squint at the picture you can see a honkin big speaker propped up on the dash with wires going up to the ceiling. Remember that?

I totally forgot about that! That's hilarious! The things we did when we were young, dumb, and broke!
